My Hero

Yeah that's Maya. She is on John's bed (big no no) curled up with John's stuffed puppy. This dog is awesome. Why? Well Monday the 2nd I was sitting in my house playing a game. The neighbor's dog kept barking. Every time I looked out of the window I would see someone walking down the street. So I ignored the dog. This went on for 15 minutes. All of a sudden, Maya jumps up, goes to the door, comes back to me, goes back to the door, comes back to me and starts whining. Slightly annoyed, I put the game aside, looked at her and said "fine I will go check on them."

So I walked over to my neighbor's house. Her dog was crying and she was sound asleep in the chair. I knocked on the door. She didn't answer. I yelled at her. Still no answer. So I go on in. I try nudging her, shaking her, yelling at her. Still nothing. So I call 911. They arrive within 5 minutes and cannot get sugar reading (she's diabetic) because its so low. some one later told me that would mean it was below 20. 100 is about where a person's sugar should run. So they finally get her awake and talking after 30+ minutes of working with her. They did not have to take her to the hospital.

Needless to say, Maya got some good treats after that... Awesome!

Awesome is her key word that tells her she did something great and is getting a treat. Had it not been for her abnormal behavior/alerting me I would not have checked on the neighbor for at least 12 more hours. I don't think I need to go over the possibilities. I love this dog. While this was her responding to another dog, it still shows signs that she will be able to fill her role as a Seizure Response Dog. She was able to tell me that something was not right and did not give up until I took action. The whole time I was at the neighbor's house she stayed at Noah's side, despite the police car, fire engine, and ambulance all in front of the house with lights going. Did I stress how much I love this dog?

And the neighbor? Well she is keeping us on our toes. She has already had two more spells since then. One of which involved 911 again. Please continue to pray for her. She is going through a really rough part of life right now.

Maya is a smart dog. God really gave you a very smart dog for Noah.

BTW, you may want to change out my link, it is now http://buddyburton.blogspot.com for Buddy's Ramblings.

Did I mention, nice glasses. Tina Fey glasses. HA, HA.
We'll be in Kentucky the week of July 18-25th for vacation and may try to come to Porter, hopefully.

Pray for our safe journey to Kentucky.
