Wonder Dog!

Yes I love my dog. Oh sorry, Noah's dog. She is such a sweet addition to our family. She recently graduated from her beginner level training. YAY! I'm so proud of my dog. Oops Noah's dog. The next step in her training I will be working on her a lot this summer with service type commands. Things such as opening doors, picking up medication bottles, staying under the table during meals, and many other things too. Then I will probably enroll her in another round of advanced training classes. I am not sure if I will use the same company or if I will hire a private trainer. I am waiting to see what I can do with her on my own first. We still have a long way to go before she can be certified as a service animal, but we are moving in that direction. Here is 'our' sweet baby girl on her Graduation day.

Now Maya is as sensitive as is pretty. We are becoming very familiar with the vet. She came from the pound with kennel cough and has since been treated for 3 other things since then. She currently is taking antihistamines 3 times a day, bath once a week, another med once a week (for 4 weeks), and had a steroid injection. This latest and greatest problem is due to a mite that she has picked up from somewhere. Her sensitive skin and the mite have let to massive bald spots due to itching. Poor baby girl. She has also lost at least eight pounds in as many days. She can't afford any more hair or weight loss.

My dad says I spoil her. I say so what. By training her to be Noah's service animal I am in a figurative way placing his life in her paws. For that alone she deserves nothing but the best. Yeah even the expensive dog food. Hey she has a sensitive stomach. :)
